The number of methadone deaths in the United States has been rising steadily over the past decade and shows no signs of slowing down.  Current statistics show that more than 4000 people die annually from methadone, and these deaths are mostly occurring in pain management patients or individuals undergoing detoxification.  As a result of the increase in reported deaths attributed to methadone the Food and Drug Administration issued this Public Health Advisory.
